Types of Container Shipping

🚢

By Sea

The most cost-effective method for large shipments. Where possible, we use direct vessels without transshipment at intermediate ports.

🚂

By Rail

Faster than sea but more expensive. The route goes through border crossings in Russia and Kazakhstan; delays of one to two weeks are possible depending on queue volumes.

🚢+🚂

Sea + Rail

The container travels by sea from China to the Russian Far East and is transferred to a train in Vladivostok or Nakhodka. Possible delays include storms delaying vessel arrival, and limited rail capacity on the Far East side.

The workflow is the same for all three options — described below.

How It Works

At the quoting stage you provide the port or station of origin, cargo volume and weight. We provide the rate, availability, and the nearest departure dates for vessels and trains from China, offering all possible options — sea, rail, sea + rail. You choose the best fit by timeline and cost. Once the price is agreed and the forwarding order is signed, the rate is locked and the shipment begins.

1
Cargo readiness at the shipper's facility. Space is booked only after the shipper confirms readiness to hand over cargo on a specific date.
2
We provide you with our agent's contact details in China; the agent reaches out to the shipper and agrees on the date.
3
An empty container is dispatched for the confirmed date: the agent books the slot, arranges a truck, and the container is delivered for loading.
4
Loading (typically half a day to one day), then the container returns to the port or station and awaits vessel or train loading.
5
Transit by sea and/or rail. For rail and sea + rail routes — border crossing or transloading at the Russian Far East.
6
Arrival at destination port or terminal, customs clearance, transfer to road transport.
7
Delivery to your warehouse and unloading. The empty container is returned to the port. At this point the shipment is complete.

Comparing Rates? Compare the Full Cost

When comparing rates, many overlook terminal charges at the destination port or station and container haulage — they only compare the bare freight rate. We quote the most comprehensive rate in our forwarding order, so you face no surprises and understand the total shipping cost upfront.
